The Garrett family has faced many challenges, but through it all, they’ve remained strong and hopeful. During this time, friends and neighbors came together, determined to help, and realized the family’s greatest need: a new home, designed to accommodate Kimmie’s health needs and provide the comfort and support they deserve.
We invite you to join friends, neighbors, and the community in supporting the Garrett family’s journey. Together, we can help them move into a Habitat for Humanity home, built just for them.
Learn more about Kimmie’s journey below.
At just 9 years old, Kimmie Garrett contracted influenza A in February 2024. What started as a common illness turned into a life-changing ordeal for her and her family. As SharRonnie, her mother, describes, "Kimmie had the flu many times before but this time it attacked her body differently”. The illness led to severe medical complications, forcing her parents to make an impossible choice—let Kimmie pass in her hospital bed or give her a chance in the operating room. They chose to fight for their daughter’s life, and against all odds, Kimmie survived—a true miracle. The journey wasn’t without its challenges. Due to a lack of oxygen during the critical moments, Kimmie lost her hands and feet, setting her on a new path—one of resilience, strength, and hope.
Now, Kimmie and her family face a new challenge—finding a safe, wheelchair-accessible home where they can live together comfortably. Their current home isn’t designed to support Kimmie’s needs, making everyday tasks more difficult for her and her family. The financial strain of medical expenses, travel to appointments, and the time and care required for Kimmie, and her siblings make it very difficult for them to save any money for the home they desperately need. This is where we come in as a community! Having a stable, accessible home would make all the difference in Kimmie’s journey forward.
By joining the Garrett family's friends, neighbors, and community, every donation, every share, and every act of kindness brings them one step closer to a home where they can thrive.
Your support will make a direct and lasting impact on the family’s future. Together, we’re not just building a house; we’re building hope, stability, and a brighter future for the Garrett family.
